I was brought up on this movie as a kid. As a Nigerian I couldn't understand a word but the dances and song were great. Now I'm looking to buy the dvd and keep for my kids unborn.

Excellent song by Lata Mangeshkar and Chitalkar. Geeta Bali a beautiful and graceful actress who died at rather young at age 35 (1930-1965).

It's the kind of sweet ditty that makes even a bashful person want to get up and dance. It's just joy,joy and more joy from beginning to end. Thank you posting it.
V. Siddhartha on Saturday, April 12, 2008
Even after watching this clip "a million" times, I can't quit. Bhagwan and Geeta are of course acting as if they were born to the art-- so natural in every move, every expression. Then there is the always-divine voice of Lata and the surprisingly golden voice of CR, one of our greatest composers( Witness Anarkali). Probing my addiction, I am equally mesmerized by the fluid moves of the background dancers. Thus the perfection here and my fixation, too. Thanks a million, ksatheesan.

I have never seen such a melody which C.Ramchandra had He had great sense
of music. Every new music director should learn from him that how to
balance melody and bits in every song. hats off to you chitalkar

My most fav Albela clip. What the words lack in poetry, they compensate
for by their delicious thrust and parry exchanges, especially the Geeta
Bali repartee sent forth each time by the angelic voice of Lataji. The
street dance induces a smile in the viewer all the way through, not least
because of how the background dancers join in like a silken flood.( I
gather Amitabh Bacchan learned his dance moves by watching Bhagwan). Thanks,
COS.

its true , the lack of poetry is compensated by lata ji's angelic voice and
the catchy tunes by CR. simplicity has its own attraction :) thank you very
much !

This song was supposed to be sung by Rafi. But Rafi due to his tight
schedule could not come for recording.Hence all the songs of Albela except
the first song which was sung by Rafi, all the other songs sung by music
director C.Ramchandra(Chitalkar).Surprisingly songs by Chitalkar have
become super hit but the first song by Rafi failed.

Are you talking about Lata-Rafi duet ' Mehfil Mein Meri Kaun Ye Diwana...'
If so, I dont think it was a failed song. Yes, I agree 'Sham Dhale Khidki
Tale was more popular than the Lata-Rafi duet.

Bhagwan Dada and Geeta Bali rock. What a melodious song? It is sad that
Bhagwan Dada who directed 48 movies and had a passion for filmdom spent his
last days in a crawls and Geeta Bali who was a Good Samaritan died of small
pox in 1965. They were great people. We are blessed to see this video.

There is a spelling mistake in my previous comment. The word "crawl
