A journey taken, without end,
Where no true destination could transcend.
Our years consumed, no victory won,
No lasting treasure, 'neath the sun.
For joy we sought, a fleeting gleam,
While sorrows haunted, a waking dream.
The thought arose, a chilling fear,
Where have we wandered, drawing near?

How frail we were, how bound we seemed,
To deeds forbidden, a broken dream.
Then turning back, to face our plight,
We trembled, shadowed in endless night.
Afraid of shadows, our own plight.

Reflecting inward, heart laid bare,
We blushed before ourselves, beyond compare.
The thought arose, a chilling sting,
Where have we wandered, on broken wing?
