wo mohabbat ki shuruaat wo be tahasha khushi
dekh kar unko wo phoole na samaana dil ka
dil lagi dil ki lagi ban ke mita deti hai
roug dushman ko bhi ya rab na lagana dil ka
ek to mere muqaddar ko bigaada usne
aur phir uspe ghazab hañs ke banana dil ka

mere pahlu mein nahi aap ki mutthi meiñ nahi
be thikaane hai bahut din se thikana dil ka
wo bhi apne naa hue dil bhi gaya haatho se
aise aane se to behtar tha na aana dil ka
khoob haiñ aap bahut khoob! magar yaad rahe
zeib deta nahi aisoñ ko sataana dil ka

be jhijhak aa ke milo hañs ke milao aañkhe
aao ham tum ko sikhaate hain milaana dil ka
naqsh bar aab nahi wahm nahi khwab nahi
aap kyuñ khel samajhte hain mitaana dil ka
hasrateñ khaak hui mit gaye armaañ sare
lut gaya koocha-e-jaanañ mein khazana dil ka

le chala hai mere pahlu se ba-sad shouq koi
ab to mumkin hi nahin laut ke aana dil ka
unki mehfil mein naseer unke tabassum ki qasam
dekhte reh gaye ham haath se jana dil ka

The grace of their gaze, the soul's surrender,
Oh, that time, those words, that era, my heart's tender.
They gave no ear to my heart's tale, its plight,
Years have passed, yet they know not my heart's night.
No new thing is love for beauty, this I know,
An ancient habit, this heart's constant flow.

That love's beginning, joy beyond measure,
Seeing them, my heart swelled with utter pleasure.
This dalliance of the heart, a fire that consumes,
Oh, Lord, spare even foes this ache that looms.
My fate she shattered, then with a mocking grace,
Built a new heart, in this forsaken place.

Not in my grasp, nor held within your hand,
My heart's abode, for so long, has lacked land.
They, too, became estranged, my heart gone astray,
Better had they not come, than leave this way.
You are fair, indeed, yet let this truth remain,
To torment the heart, does not become the vain.

Come without fear, meet with laughter bright,
Let us together, learn heart's uniting light.
Not a fleeting image, nor illusion's guise,
Why do you deem erasing a heart, a game unwise?
Hopes turned to dust, desires all in vain,
My heart's treasure plundered, in love's domain.
