Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Suno Suno Ae Duniyawalon Bapu Ki Yeh Amar Kahani - सुनो सुनो ऐ दुनियावालो बापू की यह अमर कहानी
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
In Porbandar's embrace, a sage took birth,
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, of purest worth.
Childhood's games, then London's learned quest,
A barrister's form, in Africa's test.
Though fleeting the world, and its gilded snare,
He sought no solace, beyond the pure air.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
In Africa's soil, the Indian plight he spied,
Against the Raj, a righteous fire he applied.
Then home to India, his heart's true claim,
In Sabarmati, Satyagraha's flame.
The Khilafat's cause, his aid did impart,
For Islamic rights, he played his part.
Hindus and Muslims, beloved in his sight,
All faiths he cherished, with purest light.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
To India's Congress, he brought forth his grace,
Beneath the tricolor, the people's embrace.
Khadi's call echoed, each home did it claim,
Foreign goods burned, in a purifying flame.
The spinning wheel's hum, a whispering plea,
India's flag waved, for all eyes to see.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Then to Lahore, the call for rule did arise,
Freedom's warrior, who never would surmise.
To Dandi he marched, with salt in his hand,
Satyagraha's words, across the land.
India chanted, "Gandhi's name we sing,"
In forty crore hearts, a simple man, a King.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
Truth's steadfast keeper, who never did yield,
Breaking the laws, from the world he concealed,
For country he suffered, to prisons he went,
And laughed at his sorrows, a life self-spent.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
To uplift the Harijans, a fast he did take,
A new path for the world, his conscience to make.
The plight of the villages, his heart did deplore,
"Harijan" the paper, a voice to explore.
The reins of Congress, to Nehru's strong hand,
Bapu began, his village's command.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
A new voice arose, a fresh battle's call,
"Quit India" it echoed, embracing all.
Prison he knew, yet fear did not find,
A freedom's decree, his heart and his mind.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Within jail's cold walls, fate's arrow did fly,
Bapu's beloved, her final goodbye.
Silent the Devi, her pyre did ignite,
Her children denied, their last mournful sight.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
In Hindu-Muslim hearts, hate's fire did rage,
Distressing the Quran, and Gita's wise page.
In Noakhali's fields, murder's cruel play,
Mercy's form, Bapu, felt the pain's dismay.
In simple dhoti, with staff in hand,
Love's pure language, he spread through the land,
On foot he travelled, a soul so complete,
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
In '47's dawn, freedom's light did gleam,
India's flag waved, a long-cherished dream.
But Bapu, our light, in darkness to roam,
From Delhi to Noakhali, to shield us, his home,
He gave up his life, to conceal his own,
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
In Calcutta's fast, to mend broken ties,
Bapu's miracle, the hearts did arise,
From Calcutta to Delhi, he raised the city's pride,
At dawn and at dusk, in Birla's house did reside,
"Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram," his prayer,
His foundation, his message, beyond compare.
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
One January's eve, Birla's door he did leave,
Prayers he uttered, his steps did weave,
But fate changed form, and violence took hold,
On Ahimsa's heart, a story of old,
Bapu exclaimed, "Rama, Rama," with his final breath,
To Rama's temple, he journeyed to death,
Our beloved Bapu, go now, depart,
Your name shall live, in every heart,
As long as the sun and the stars,
You gave life, and exalted death,
You gave your blood, and lit the flame of love,
Jai Bapu, Jai Gandhi, forever above.
Let all now proclaim, "Jai Gandhi,"
Who bound Hindu-Muslim, in love's decree,
Remember Bapu, his story so grand,
Let us not forget, his light in the land,
Let his flame burn bright, in every soul,
Hearken, O World, the saga to unfold.
Hearken, O World, a saga untold,
Of Bapu, revered as the Ganges' gold.
Hearken, O World, the tale to unfold.
Jai Bapu, Jai Gandhi, let all of us say,
