I am surprised that this debate still rages. As an aside I was recently
listening to the soneg 'Meh Yaha Hoon' from Veer Zara sung by Udit
Narayan. A wonderful song using the music composed by the late great Madan
Mohan ..and whilst listening to it, I realised that it would not have
sounded right by Rafi or Kishore. The fact is, that all singers have 'their
era' during which the songs they sing sound great to the listeners - once
that era has gone, a new singer will take his/her place and sing another
set of songs and those will represent his era. In other words, it is
almost pointless comparing one singer with another from another era - just
as it is a pointless exercise comparing Elvis with Michael Jackson.
Throughout all this remains the fact that the composer must compose a
beautiful tune and incidental music and the lyricist, the words which the
singer can then present as 'his /her song'.

@surya8100 yes ...ur right...a lot of songs of LP had a hint of shankar jaikishan's style...(both are my favs)..esp this song..., wo hai zara khafa khafa from shagird, and patthar ke sanam title..both were great...but what I love about LP is almost all of his songs has different music in all the antras...where as SJ had a lot of antras with repeat music after the first antra..

Can any one be near this purely divine voice??? no way...i don know why people even dare to compare KHUDA KI AWAAz with INSAANO KI AWAAZ..How can the SUN be compared with cadles??no way.RAFI SAHAB has no parallel even after 41 years if his passing away ...just great ,,,,,,hazaro salaam rafi sahab ko,,,,,
