Some sluggish steps depart this bend,
Some languid paths, some swift ascents,
Depart this bend.

One path, toward the desert's heart,
Is lost within the whirling sand,
Another, unraveling, torn apart.
Peeling, it bleeds through thorns, through wood,
Then races, leaps, and falls to ground,
Into the voids unknown.
From this bend, they are bound.

I sit upon that bend, where pathways part,
And one day, surely, it must be so,
That at this bend, you will halt, and say,
"Which is the road to tread?
