Lyrics of Ek Baar Ek Ladki Thi - एक बार एक लड़की थी
ak bar ak ladki thi nam tha jiska simraila
pariyo jaisi pyari pyari gudiyo jaisi rajdulari
mammi ko pyari papa ko pyari
choti si bimari me uski mammi mar gai
chhod akeli simraila ko vo ishvar ke ghar gai
itne bade makan me itne bade jahan me
bache akele keval do simraila aur uske papa
kai varsh yu beet gaye
simraila ke papa ne tab apna duja byah rachaya
simraila ki mammi laya simraila ki is mammi
ko pahle hi thi do kanyaye kanyaye bhi badi vikat thi
badsurat thi bhundi bhundi nak naksh sab tede mede
bat chit bhi badi karkasa
lomdi jaisi ghurati thi muh par mitha kurra aisa
bholi bhali saral salouni simraila se chidti thi vo
so bechari gudiya rani din bhar chulha funka karti
sara din kapde dhoti thi farsh saf karti thi din bhar
juto par poulish karti thi aur katkhani dono bahne
in sab se ghabrati roti dhul gya aankho se moti
baith akeli tahkhane me simraila socha karti thi
kismat ko kosa karti thi fir khud ko dheeraj deti thi
tab usne kuch mitra banaye chuhe chuhiya murge murgi
tota maina batakh kabutar fudak fudak karti thi chiraiya
rang birange pyare panchi simraila ka drad batate
chahak chahak kar gana gate ga kar usko khub hasate
vo udasi dil ki pyasi mitro ke lapde siti thi
dukhdo ko has kar peeti thi
isi tarah sab kuch chalta tha din ugta tha fir dhalta tha
tabhi ak din mila nimtrd raj mahal me rajkuvar ne
maharash ke liye bulaya har ladki ko
simraila ki souteli ma aur ghamandi dono bahne phuli nahi samati
rajkuvar ke us nyote par akad akad itrati thi
sare ghar me chahal pahal thi ho halla tha ho halla tha
simraila bechari gum sum fir bhi himmat karke boli
in bahno ka ju na jau de do ammi raj mahal mai bhi dekhungi
rajkuvar se mil aaungi
dekho to chuhiya ki himmat ye muh masur ki dal
jao apna chulha funko ghar ka kachara saaf karo tum
mat bhulao apni aukhaat
tab chulhe ke pas akeli roti thi simrela
roti kya thi chillati hti diwaro se takrati thi
aur tabhi ho gaya achanak sare ghar me amar ujala
jaise sona bikhar gaya ho har kona ho gaya sunhera
aur samne simrela ke kahi sunhari kahi dupahari gori gat
sundar ek sundari khadi ho gayi
fati fati aankho se keval ghur rahi thi us rupam ko
himmat karke pucha aakhir aap kaun hai aap kaun aap kaun hai
main hu teri mata beti haan haan teri dhram ki mata
pari desh ki main rahne wali laal pari hai mera naam
mujhe tum pari maa kah sakhti ho bolo beti kyun roti ho
bolo beti kyun roti ho maa mera bhi man karta hai
raajmahal me main bhi jaau raajkuwar ko main bhi dekhu
maa haara is me main bhi naachu maa maa maa
bas itni si ichha ki khatir moti jaise itne aansu
ye dekho dekho jaadui chhai ye judaai chhadi ye
har khwaaish poori krti hai chal uth uth bhi
aansu pochh ri paagal lekin jaisa main kahti hu waisa tujhko karna hoga
uchhal padi bhar kar kilkaari lagi bajane khub taaliya
ari pari maa ari pari maa aap kahegi bilkul waisa haan haan
bilkul waisa wahi karungi aagya do kya karna hoga
jaao pahle pichhwadi ki baari me se ek bada sa
pila kattu laakar mere aage raakho
ek bada sa kattu lakar jhat se raakha maa ke aage
soch rahi thi ab kya hoga tabhi chhadi se chhua pari ne uc kattu ko
aur baat hi baat baat me kattu badal gaya baggi me
aur pari maa phir se boli are jaao moti chuhiyo ko le
aao chuhiya daani me are main unhe shandaar ghaode kar dungi
aanan paalan simrela ne laakar rakh di chuhe daani
aur fataafat usi chaadi se chhune bhar ki der lagi bas
chuhe wuhe sab gaayab the safed lambi puchho waale chh ghode hin hina rahe the
jab baggi hai jab ghode hai tab kochvaan bhi ho na ek
kya main chuho wala wo pinjra bhi laau shabaas shabaas laao laao
kaha pari ne sabse mota sabse taaza gol matool bada chuha hi
kochvaan ka kaam karega aur pari ne ek kutan me
gol sare ke chuhe mal ko apni ajab chhadi se chhukar
kochvaan me badal diya chat
lambe tadnge chabuk wala gol matol agad bam chuha
albela mastana mota baandh baandh ke dammak duta dammak duta
beto ab tayaari ho gayi poori aharaash me shaamil hone
raajmahal me ja sakti hai muska kar yu kahan pari ne par
simrela tab bhi udaas thi suni suni uski aankhe lagta tha
ab baras padegi are pari maa are pari maa in chindo me
in chithdo me in chido me kaun mahal me ghusega dega
darbaano ke dhakke khakar kis munh se wapas aaungi
ajab chhadi ne gazab kiya phir simrela ke sare chithde badal gaye phir
makhmal me le beti antim uphaar ab tujhko yahi chahiye
isko pahno shaayad aisa joda tumne pahle nahi kabhi dekha ho
ye shisha hai kaanch hai aap pino isko
cham cham cham cham cham cham shisha thirak thirak karti simrela
chali baithne jab baggi me suno are laadi sunao to
suno ladli ladli ek shart hai shart hai bite jo ho aadhi raat
aur mahal ki ghanti bajaaye jo hi baara to ho tu bahhar aana
varna phir teri tu jaane shart agar ye tut gayi to
baggi kattu ho jayegi ghoade sab chuhiya ho jayenge
kochvaan phir hoga chuha
pal bhar ko tham gaya samma sab har ek aankh thi simrela par
raajkuwar ho gaya baawra darr gayi simrela man me
mujhe tumhara naam bataao naacho aur naachte jaao
sudh budh dono bhul gaye the lipte lipte naach rahe the
thirak rahe the jhum rahe the hosh nahi tha unko kuch bhi
mahal ki badi ghadi ne bhau bahu karke ghanta thoka
aur baj aaye poore baara raajkuwar ki baahi se chat jhapat padi
bekhud simrela aur mahal se baahar bhaagi
rajkuwar bhi pichhe lapka lene lekin hath nahi aaya kuch
uski premi bhaag chuki thi lekin is bhaaga daudi me
billori shishe ka keval ek chamacham juta khulkar
chhut gaya tha darwaje par
rajkuwar ne us jute ko pahle chuma fir sahlaya
chum chum kar gale lagaya phir usne ki ek pritagaya
is jute ko pahanne wali mere ghar ki rani hogi
aur nahi mil paaye wo to uski yahi nishaani hogi
aur doosre din se saare raajnagar me pita dhindora
shishe ka ye sundar juta baithega jiske paanw mwe wahi
sundari raaj karegi raajkuwar ke gaanw me
foran hi sautali maa ne simrela ko pare dhakela
band kar diya tahkhane me aur lagakar mota taala
tan kar baith gayi saufe par
aur tabhi ve chuhe chuhiya simrela ke sachche sathi
aapas me kuch baate kar ke chhupe chhupe chal diye fudakte
chudel ke saufe tak aaye najar najar me huye ishare
aur churakar latkan chabi chale gaye sidhe taikhane
khol diya wo chun chun taala
udhar aajmaati thi kismat us jute me paanw fansakar
badi umiddo se ve bahne
jo hi dekha us chudail ne simrela ka bahhar aana
wo gusse se laal ho gayi bhul gayi wo apna aapa
raajkuwar ko kar andekha patak diya usne wo juta
badi jor se sakht farsh par
jagmag karte us jute ke tukde ho gaye laakh hajaar
sakhte me aa gaye sipahi preshaan tha rajkumaar
chhipe chhipe phir simrela ne ek paanw aage sarkaya
koi kuch bhi samjh nahi paaye
aur tabhi ho gaya ajubaa
simrela ke komal pag me cham cham chamak raha tha juta
jo ki usi ke jode tha
juta chamak hiro jaisa raajkuwar ki aankhe chamaki
ho ho ho ho jagar magar jagar magar ho gaya ujala
aur karkasa dono bahne jo hi kuch bole munh khole
to hi apni ajab chhadi le sammukh aa gayi wahi pari maa
laal apri laal pari wo dhram ki mata ajab chhadi ne gajan kiya phir
simrela ke saare chithde badal gaye the phir makhmal me
chamak uthi phir se wo naari wahi rup ki jag mag bhaari
jal fuk kar dono bahno ki aankho me nafrat hi nafrat
tabhi pari maa boli hanskar
simrela simrela simrela simrela simrela
simrela jaao beti baahar ghadi hui hai tumhari cham cham baggi
jaao apne raajmahal ko paao apne raajkuwar do
aur bada dil karke beti in teeno ko maafi de do

Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Ek Baar Ek Ladki Thi - एक बार एक लड़की थी
Once, a girl, Simrela they called her,
A fairy’s grace, a doll-like dear daughter.
Loved by her mother, cherished by her father,
A sickness took her mother, a celestial gather.
Leaving Simrela alone, to God’s home she flew,
In a vast mansion, in a world so new.
Only two remained, Simrela and her sire,
Years they passed, as embers of desire.
Then her father remarried, a second bride he sought,
Bringing Simrela a stepmother, her fate was caught.
This new mother had daughters, two in her hold,
Vile they were, their stories untold.
Ugly and twisted, features askew and bent,
Their speech like a rasp, their hearts were rent.
Like foxes they snarled, their words like a curse,
Simrela, so gentle, they made her life worse.
A gentle soul, they mocked and did tease,
So the poor doll had to work to appease.
She’d clean and she’d wash, the floors she'd make bright,
Polish the shoes, with all of her might.
The spiteful sisters, they’d look and they’d jeer,
Tears of a pearl, they could not hold near.
Simrela, alone in the cellar would grieve,
Cursing her fate, her heart to believe.
Then she made friends, of creatures so small,
Mice and rats, the hens and the call.
Parrots and mynahs, ducks and the dove,
The chirping birds, they shared her love.
With colorful feathers, they eased her pain,
Sang songs of comfort, again and again.
They’d sing and they’d dance, to lift her despair,
She’d help mend their clothes, their burdens to bear.
Thus, everything went on, day turned to night,
Then an invitation arrived, shining bright.
The prince of the realm, a ball he did throw,
Every maiden was invited, to and fro.
Simrela's stepmother, her daughters so vain,
Grew puffed up with pride, again and again.
They preened and they strutted, throughout the whole house,
Simrela, so sad, as quiet as a mouse.
Yet with courage she spoke, "I wish to attend,
To see the ball, to maybe make amends."
"I'll help my sisters, the ball I will view,
To meet the prince, I will see and do."
"A rat's mouth, you want the ball?
Go to the kitchen, clean the hall!"
"Remember your place, your humble decree!"
Alone in the kitchen, she cried, silently.
Tears, they fell, she pounded the wall,
And then, suddenly, a light over all!
Like gold, it shimmered, in every room,
And before Simrela, beauty in bloom.
A fair lady stood, both fair and divine,
Staring with kindness, a vision to shine.
With open eyes, she could only stare,
"Who are you, tell me," she did declare.
"I am your mother, dear child of mine,
I am from the fairy land, this is your sign.
You can call me, 'Fairy Mother', so true.
Tell me, dear child, why are you so blue?"
"Mother, I also dream of the ball,
To see the prince, my heart to enthrall,
To dance and to sing, to join in the glee!"
"For such a desire, such tears to see?
Look at this wand, this magical art,
It grants every wish, your heart's very start.
Wipe your tears, and rise from your plight,
But listen and follow, everything right."
She laughed with delight, her heart taking wing,
Clapping her hands, "Anything you bring!"
"Oh, Fairy Mother, I'll do as you say,
Tell me your wish, without delay."
"Go gather a pumpkin, so big and so round,
From the garden, and put it on the ground."
A huge pumpkin she brought, without a delay,
Wondering what next, her heart in dismay.
Then the wand touched the pumpkin, with magic's bright gleam,
And the pumpkin turned to a carriage, a beautiful dream.
"Now bring the mice from the holding cage,
I will make them horses, upon life's stage."
Swiftly, Simrela brought the mouse's cage,
The wand touched, with magic's rage.
The mice vanished, six horses appeared,
White and long-tailed, no longer feared.
"If there's a carriage, and there's horses to roam,
Then a coachman must be there, close to home."
"Shall I bring the rat cage, and what's left for you?"
"Yes, bring it, bring it, that also is true,"
Said the fairy, "The biggest rat, the most round,
Shall be coachman, upon the hallowed ground."
The fairy touched the rat, so round and so stout,
With her wand of magic, without a doubt.
And transformed him to a coachman, his form all new,
With a long whip, his duties to pursue.
The coachman was ready, the horses were keen,
"You're ready, my dear, for the ball you have seen."
"The ball you may enter, my heart's true delight,"
Smiled the fairy, yet Simrela's eyes were not bright.
"Oh, Fairy Mother, with sadness I plead,
These rags and these tatters, a heart that will bleed?
Who will let me in the palace doors to be?
The guards will reject me, what will be, you see?"
The wand worked again, transforming the rags,
In velvet and silk, no longer in rags.
"Here, my child, your final desire,
Wear this attire, set your heart on fire.
Is this mirror or glass? In it is your grace!"
The glass twirled, Simrela took her place.
"Listen, my dear, to the words I say,
As the clock strikes twelve, you must run away.
When the clock strikes twelve, be gone from the place,
Or the carriage shall vanish, and show its face.
The horses will turn to mice, the coachman a rat."
"Oh Fairy Mother, your command, I will not do that!"
I'll follow your word, a hundred times true,
I promise to be done, what I'll do for you.
She couldn't finish, the horses did neigh,
The coachman, with a sigh, led them away.
The horses galloped, the world seemed to pause,
All eyes on Simrela, as she did the cause.
The prince was enraptured, Simrela took fright,
"Tell me your name, and dance, with all your might."
They forgot their surroundings, lost in their dance,
The clock in the palace, made its advance.
The big clock struck twelve, a loud, booming sound,
Simrela fled, no longer around.
The prince ran behind, to catch her in sight,
But she slipped away, into the night.
In her flight, a shoe of glass, had come undone,
At the door it fell, as the chase was done.
The prince kissed the shoe, caressed it with care,
"The one who fits this, my queen will share.
If she's not found, this shall be my guide."
And the next day, the proclamation did ride.
Throughout the kingdom, the word would resound,
The maiden whose foot, this shoe would surround,
Would be his queen, and the love of his life,
And share the kingdom, free from all strife.
The stepmother, she pushed Simrela away,
Locked her in the cellar, without a delay.
Sat on the sofa, with a proud, haughty air,
The mice, those friends, they had to share.
They whispered and plotted, the mice, in the breeze,
And crept to the cellar, through the trees.
They found the key, for their friend to see,
And opened the lock, so she could be free.
The sisters were trying, the shoe to embrace,
With high hopes, they tried to find their place.
When the stepmother saw Simrela come,
She became angry, her emotions numb.
She pushed the prince away, forgot her pride,
And slammed the shoe down, her heart inside.
The shoe shattered, into a thousand parts,
The soldiers were stunned, the prince broke the starts.
Yet, Simrela came forward, her feet to attend,
And the shoe, it shimmered, her story to lend.
It fitted her foot, the glass shone so bright,
The prince's eyes sparkled, with pure delight.
The stepmother, those sisters, the moment they saw,
The fairy's magic, came to the fore.
And the wand she brought forth, her face shone so clear,
The fairy mother, was suddenly near.
“Simrela, Simrela, the fairy said with a smile,
Come, my daughter, your carriage awaits, all the while.
Go now, claim your kingdom, your prince, your true love,
And forgive these three, sent from above.
Dance, sing, rejoice, let your happiness soar,
Simrela, Simrela, forevermore."
The king and the queen, in love's sweet embrace,
The story of Simrela, time cannot erase.
A fairy’s grace, a doll-like dear daughter.
