(Dancing was strongly associated with prostitution at the time, and still
is to some extent.) Devdas's mother gravely insults Paro's mother, who was
once one of her closest friends, and Paro's mother vows to, within the
week, find Paro a husband who is even richer than Devdas's family. Paro
goes to Devdas to get him to try and convince his family to let them marry,
but Devdas chooses his family instead. Regretting his -c-

Chandramukhi. Chandramukhi takes a liking to Devdas almost immediately, but

friend and Chandramukhi tell him that he had passed out in the street, and
was unconscious for three days. Chandramukhi had been spending three days
trying to help him, but he is ungrateful and -c-

play a drinking game, the friend not knowing that Devdas is so ill. Devdas,
by the end of the game, is near death, and he asks the friend to send him
to the town where Paro lives. The friend is worries, and -c-

more, and finds out that he is Devdas. She tries to run to the gates to go
see him, but they are shut before she can do so. Devdas dies -c-
