A story goes (Confirmation solicited from experts). Saigal who was working hard on this bandish but was far from perfection. Once, obsessed with the thoughts of this composition, while he was taking an early morning walk along tram tracks near Metia Burj of Kolkata he heard some one singing this bandish. He tried his best to find out the source but failed. A very interesting co-incidence that Nawab Wazid Ali Shah was kept under imprisonment at Metia Burj during his terminal days.

Saigal never received formal classical music training but the soul and strings of classical music are so pervading in whatever he sang, and devastatingly sweep your innerbeing leaving you mesmerised whether any organised training could have possibly added anything more positive. Here he is singing and recording live with recording system being carried and played on a cart along with him walking on pavement ! Singing incomparably and living in the role as an actor.

@DharniBS this has already been uploaded. it is the song "hairat-e nazaara
aakhir ban gayi raanaaiyan" [the transliteration may differ, but look up
"hairat-e-nazaara"]. there is no video to the movie karwan-e hayaat
however, and im not 100% sure whether it is one of the movies which is part
of the bunch from the silent era, the 1930s and some of the 1940s which
were lost to a large fire which destroyed original film reels.

@mahakavi i am just 26 and i am not indian but i learnt hindi and urdu coz
my grandpa was in india and wanted me to learn these languages. man saigal
sahib is a god. i used "is" coz he is not dead he is alive by his voice and
in the hearts of admirers. Wajid Ali Shah made the art of thumri but i am
sure Saigal Sahib sang this way better than him

framed picture of his hung on a wall in his Bombay home. Both Kishore's
"Marne ki Duaen" and Mukesh's "Dil jalta hai" are almost carbon copies of
Saigal's style. Both went on and created their own styles later on -
Saigal's influence on playback singing is absurdly immense.
