It is a silly notion to think that one singer "dethroned" another. The
fact is, that they each had their particular forte but also respected the
abilities of their peers. The music director's keenly understood this and
used the singer best suited to the pathos that they were trying to convey.
Therefore, a Mukesh song will forever remain a Mukesh song, a Talat song
will always be sung in Talat's style. To make this into a sporting
competition is outright silly and disrespectful to the art. The singers
had utmost respect for one another and we are therefore left with all of
these priceless gems.
