if this entire episode is an intellectual exercise it fails to impress me
let alone even hold my attention. for the seminal attempt of this
particular Ghazal one must listen to Farda Khanumjis version... that is
just etherial.. as for raag yaman.. what shall I say... these two singers
will not even pass a rudimentary admissions test to enroll to learn
hidustani vocal clasical music I have no wish to either castigate or insult
the singers but they are singularly talentless... sorry!

Hindi and Urdu are two DIFFERENT languages. Hindi speaking artists should
respect that by UNDERSTANDING and delivering instead of SAYING the lyrics.
The singer makes 2 mistakes in than 56 seconds. 1. Both KHUM & KHOUM are
urdu words. KHOUM means a 'surahi' or decanter and KHUM a bend/curve/angle.
Gahlib said KHOUM-O-SAGHAR (the decanter and the goblet). 2. Urdu has 2
different K sounds. The simple KAF of KUTTA and the complex QAF of QAINCHI.
MAIKADAH uses the simple KAF... & yes this is BORING.

I am very happy this singer *didnt* copy nor sung the same way Farida sang.
This song tune if sang exactly as Farida, it won't be same. This is art,
the song she sang is totally acceptable, it is beautifully rendered.

I heard Asha Bhosle singing this song in the same manner Farida sang, she
could not create magic. The Farida style of singing would be unmatched but
this version totally a surprise, beautiful.

Though I can't pin-point the actual reason, but I just can't like this
version of the song. The voice of the singers is good, no doubt, but they
cannot create that magic that one would expect. Overall, a very average
performance, to say the least.
But I disagree with the comments that Coke Studio India is a flop. I guess
there r some nice songs like Madari, Allah Hoo, etc.
